During one of our outings at The Innovative child Network

These days, I wake up with a feeling of excitement, not just because it’s a new day, but because I look forward to seeing my adorable kids and especially hear them tell me repeatedly, “Teacher, May I use the restroom?”

I missed being in my teaching post yesterday because of the inconsistencies in my examination time, nevertheless, I am glad I was present today.

I was given a very warm welcome by the children when I arrived this morning, “Goodmorning Teacher” filled the air amidst hugs from all angles. We settled in and one of their class teachers took the first lesson on Mechanical Tools. After the lesson, I gave their books out to them to copy what has been taught into their notes. As usual, I had to hold the hands of a few of them to write theirs.

I did not engage in so much activity today and again I had to leave before the normal closing hours to meet up with an afternoon examination.

But before I left, I assisted the headteacher sort out books for the school library and helped the kids complete the second lesson which was on Letter Work. It was during this activity that I noticed a child who has considerable difficulties catching up with others in the class. She is 4 years old and seats at the back very close to where the teacher’s desk is. I also notice she receives the highest scold and beating in class because she cannot write and she tends to forget a lot. She has difficulties pronouncing words too.

I have held her hands a couple of times to write. I looked through her note today and all I could see there are strokes that make no sense at all.

I remember during our orientation, one of the advice our coordinator gave was adopting a child during our 6weeks stay in the school. Frankly, I had told myself immediately that it isn't possible because I already have a handful of children I am personally coaching. But when I encountered this child I decided to rethink my resolution.

This is me saying that I have decided to take up the challenge of helping this child write and identify letters and numbers correctly before my 6 weeks elapses.

I seriously do not know how the process will look like but I just want to try my best. I know God sent me there for a reason and I will be sure not to leave without fulfilling that purpose.

This is a 30-day Journey guys and more interestingly, I have found something to keep me going every day. I will be bringing you the progress report. Stay with me.

Meanwhile, Hope you’ve read the previous series, if you haven't, check my wall, you will find it.

See you tomorrow!
