Diary of A Student-Teacher, #Week1Day1
Today was my first day at my assigned school as a student-teacher.
I had an examination today too so I resumed there quite early, got involved in a couple of classroom activities then came back to my school for my examination. Of course, I explained to the headteacher at my assigned school and she was totally okay with it.
I don’t know if the class I will be teaching will change, but today, I handled nursery 1.
I met the kids copying notes on Social And Health Habits from the blackboard. Some persons couldn’t write, some did but with funny handwriting, while some were probably just tired of scribbling endless letters and decided to rest their heads.
Let me tell you guys, teaching is very stressful, especially when you are handling the pre-primary section. Teachers go through lots of stress to ensure that kids can write, read and express themselves in a proper manner. It’s unfortunate that they are the set of humans whose welfare has so been neglected.
Anyways, I assisted the class teacher in assessing what they’ve written. For those who could not write, I held their hands through the scribbling of letters.
The kids are so cute and amazing.
They don’t waste time telling you, “teacher, I cannot write” when you complain too much of their illegible handwriting or ask why they still have a blank note in front of them. One of the kids told me that the kid who is seated adjacent to her can’t write and I turn around to find out that the kid who is reporting the other is in fact having her notes being copied for her by the teacher.
I love how calm they are too and READY TO LEARN.
One of the kids, Splendour, who is 6, even took the initiative of going round to assist her classmate. She has the most legible handwriting.
I remember asking God to send me to where I should be and he undoubtedly did. As a matter of fact, I wanted a secondary school deep down my heart ( though we were not allowed to choose) but God decided that I needed to start with a private nursery/Primary school.
Today has been so stressful. Throughout this week, I will be joggling between my exams at school and teaching at my place of assignment.
Of course, the grace is sufficient.
See you Tomorrow!
